In today’s professional world it’s an employee’s market. There are more jobs than available people to fill them. Placement agencies are doing what they do best, placing people with employers. Unfortunately, in the industry of safety, it’s not as simple as placing someone. There are so many different vertices within “safety” that no single individual could know them all, most notably at the salary ranges being offered.
Areas a safety professional would have to have knowledge in are industrial hygiene, federal safety laws, state safety laws, environmental laws, personal protective equipment, DOT, first aid, conducting investigations, root cause analysis, six sigma, behavior-based safety, ergonomics, training, and insurance to name a few. As you can see, that is a lot of different topics that one individual could be confronted with as expected to know. Back to placement agencies; they place people, they don't train or mentor based on the placement type. When our team places a safety person at a client site, that individual is backed by our entire company of experienced professionals who come from different professional backgrounds and, thus, can support any area of concern.
